Jenna's Story
In my senior year at Washington I was both Rally Commissioner and Sr. Class Vice President (yeah, blame me if you didn't have fun at the Mark Hopkins Prom!)
I would love to see Mr. Covey again (Colin Covey, Civics?) as he was the MOST inspiring, thought-provoking teacher I've EVER met!
After graduation, I joined a Japanese Dance troup and toured for a while - was on the Ed Sullivan Show (!) and danced in Mexico and New York.
I worked two seasons in Yellowstone and before he shipped out, I dated Michael Whelan for a while and we were "semi-engaged" when he was killed in 'Nam.....
Came back to SF and went to CCSF for a while, but academics didn't hold my interest, though I carried a 3.75 GPA....
I always wanted to be a actress when I grew up. My family thought that was a dumb idea. As it turns out, they were wrong, but I believed them anyway and never pursued it professionally.
After a stint with Pac Bell and a few retail places, I married surfer "Sandy" Carpenter and had two wonderful children....and from them I've learned that no matter how well you plan to raise your children, your plans will always go awry - throw out the playbook and be willing to improvise on your basic ideas....I've learned to talk less and listen more...I've learned to offer my opinion only when ...Expand for more
asked for it...I learned that no matter how hard we try, life will always give us some disappointments.
I also entered the SFPD Academy in 1983 and was the first FEMALE academy class president (I was also about 11 years older than the average recruit!) - but injured my wrists during training and had to drop out...not a bad thing - I think I would have been a "cowboy" if I'd stayed (a no-feeling, rough-house-type cop - not a good thing)
Unfortuantely my marriage didn't last and we divorced in 1985, but remained co-habitating until 2000, when we again divorced (we'd moved to Las Vegas by then and remarried in 1998).
He is now on wife #5 and my sister Derna and I, live in Henderson, Nevada (just about 20 mins. from Vegas).
I did voice-over work for many years in the Bay Area and some little theater as well, and got my Screen Actors Guild card in 1980 doing a Snickers commercial....But that went on hold when I moved to Nevada, as the opportunities were not as rich here....And in "the industry" as you age, well....
My son works for Comcast in San Leandro and my daughter married a wonderful French man and has two daughters of her own now. I plan to move to France by the end of the year.
Would love to reconnect with any old school mates who have an interest in doing so.....
